Recent & Planned Work
The facilities at BHS have been drastically updated in recent years, and work continues thanks to remaining funds from a 2007 bond issue and community support.
Summer 2012 Construction
About $1.2 million in additional improvements will be funded via the 2007 bond issue.
- The chalkboards throughout the campus will be refitted with markerboards.
- There will be new teacher desks in the 1939 main building, 1954 stadium, and 1958 annex classrooms.
- There will be floor tile replacement throughout the 1939 main building, 1954 stadium, and 1958 annex and first floor corridor tile repairs in the science wing.
- The remaining sinks, gas outlets, vent hoods, and science demonstration desks in the former science labs in the main building and annex will be removed.
- The tiny greenhouse atop the 1954 annex will be removed.
- Former chemistry lab 207 will be split into two small classrooms and former chemistry lab 209 will be renovated into a larger business computer lab as the smaller business computer lab in 106 is converted for use by the yearbook staff.
- The 1963 metal building, originally an auxiliary cafeteria, will be razed. The Bruin Brilliance program now housed there will move to room 004 in the ground level of the annex.
- Stairwell lighting will be made more accessible for bulb replacements and some handrails will be replaced.
