The mission of the Bartlesville Public School District is to provide its students with all the tools necessary to be productive citizens and life-long learners. We believe the key is hiring and retaining dedicated, caring and competent teachers to make a positive difference for all students.
Throughout the country, approximately two percent of all teachers have earned their National Board certification. Within the BPSD, more than seven percent of its approximately 460 instructors are National Board certified.
Great instruction has helped the Bartlesville Public School District achieve fine test scores in recent years. When the latest scores for the ACT - a college entrance exam - were released in the fall of 2010, the BPSD posted a fine cumulative score of 22.0, easily surpassing both the state and national averages.
In addition, the BPSD has seen its Academic Performance Index scores improve in each of the years since the state testing series originated in 2002. Mandated by the Oklahoma State Department of Education and monitoring the academic progress of school districts and the sites which comprise them, API scores range from 0 to 1,500, which is considered perfect. Within the last three years, the BPSD has seen two of its elementary schools - Hoover and Wayside - earn flawless scores of 1,500.
The community has consistently shown its support for the Bartlesville Public School District, passing bond issues in 2001 ($30.5 million) and 2007 ($29.95 million). The school bond issue of 2001 helped to transform the Bartlesville High School campus, adding the new Science Wing, Fine Arts Center, BHS Fieldhouse, Library/Media Center and the connecting link in addition to a new heating and air conditioning system. Thanks to the bond issue of 2007, seven new classrooms have been added at the Bartlesville Mid-High School while eight classrooms have been added at a made-over Ranch Heights Elementary School. Updates are currently being made at Wayside and Woodrow Wilson elementary schools, which are located in growing areas within the community, and will be unveiled in time for the start of the 2011-12 academic year. Both the 2001 and 2007 bond issue helped support the district in the areas of technology, transportation, fine arts, athletics and curriculum materials as well.
