Minutes from April 2009 meeting

Copies of the minutes were circulated and approved.

Correspondence was circulated.

Treasurer’s Report – Melanie Refvik

Melanie went over the revised budget and the itemized categories.  She then covered the financials as of 5-10-09.  Most committees came in under budget.

PJ Polk extended a special thank you to Melanie for a job well done as the treasurer for the last 2 years.

Principal’s Report – Richard Dennis

Thank you to the WPSA for everything we do for the school.  The luncheon was wonderful.  Thank you for giving him a yearbook.

There is a WAVE ice cream social on Sunday for academic volunteers (tutors).

Next year is Wayside’s 50th anniversary.  Mr. Dennis would like to put together a committee to work on a special 50 yr celebration.  Let him know if you want to be on the committee.  Some meetings will be held over the Summer.

We are getting new carpet in the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade classes.  Work will start on 5/20.  This also includes the computer lab and the area on either side of the stage.  This will be paid for with left over bond money.  Next year they will have a rule that there will be no red drinks allowed in the classrooms.

The track meet will take place Wednesday the 13th.

Field day will be Friday the 15th.

The 5th grade promotion will be on Friday the 22nd at 9:15, after which the 5th graders will have a party at the YMCA.

   Staffing changes:

Mrs. Ward is moving to Oklahoma City.

Stacie Schobanec from Wilson will replace her.

A new 3rd grade teacher will be added and they are interviewing some candidates now.

Patti Godwin is moving to Ranch Heights.

Missy Brewer is going to teach first grade.

Teacher’s Representative – Rhonda Kesselhuth (given by Jena Schaffner)

Request for Buckle Down booklets from Mrs. Farmer.  The Walk a Thon committee will take care of this.

5th grade would like to buy new canvas totes.  If we bought sturdier ones we could use them from year to year, which would make them non-consumable, which would qualify them for Walk a Thon money.  Mrs. Watkins came back later in the meeting and gave us a new request for some sturdier totes.  Walk a Thon money will be used to purchase them.

Mrs. McDonald was wondering if we should start saving Capri Sun wrappers to make some money for the school.  WPSA will look into it.

PJ Polk mad a motion to go ahead and buy the totes with WPSA money if they teachers wanted to stay with the ones that only last 1 year.

Melanie Revfik seconded the motion.

Motion carried unanimously.

Committee Reports:

Year Book - Shelly Carey

Some yearbooks were given out to teachers as gifts.  We have 44 left of the 300 we had initially.  225 were sold.  31 were given as gifts.  If we sell all the yearbooks we will be $79 short.  donations are being accepted for books to be given to underprivileged children.

Field Day - Stacie Hopkins

Field day will be May 15th.

We have 1100 popsicles and lots of water.  If you haven’t brought your donation of popsicles or water, it is no longer necessary.

Still looking for chaperones in Stone, McDonald and Bonham’s classes.  Question was asked to please put sunscreen on the kids before they come to school.  Setup will begin at 9:00 am.

Pickles and Popcorn - Alice-Ann Shiflet

One of the machines is very slow so it’s not being used at all.  The other machine sometimes stops working.  Alice-Ann is looking for someone to fix the machine.  PJ Polk thought that the machine that is not being used should be removed from the cafeteria and sold.  Central just bout a new machine.  Is there anyone that can get the information from Central to see how much a new machine would cost?  It was decided that we will wait until our August meeting to decide on replacing the machine.

WAVE - Carly Baccus

We have just completed phase 1 of the WAVE, which was to recruit more volunteers.  Phase 2 will focus on how to get parents to help their kids more at home.  She is looking for 2 volunteers to help with phase 2.
